ViEWS Communication Learning Outcomes
ViEWS are a university-wide requirement that all departments address oral, written, and visual communication learning outcomes in their majors. Virginia Tech is committed to ensuring that every graduate is able to effectively use a variety of spoken, visual, and written communication strategies which are necessary for success as a student, for employment, and for life as a responsible citizen. The courses required for a degree from the Department of Accounting and Information Systems include opportunities to demonstrate communication skills which are graded by ACIS faculty. Also, in one required course, a writing sample is collected and given to ACIS practitioners who are members of the department’s Advisory Board for grading. The results of this evaluation are used to review the level of communications skills our majors demonstrate. If necessary, changes in the curriculum will be made to insure our graduates process the communication skills required of an ACIS practitioner. The ACIS major is prepared to have a successful career in accounting and information systems.
