R. Bruce Prouty Retires

R. Bruce Prouty received an undergraduate degree in accounting from Virginia Tech in 1949. He completed a master's degree in Business Administration from Virginia Tech in 1959. Bruce also took additional graduate work at the University of Alabama. He joined the Virginia Tech faculty in 1953 and served until his retirement in 1984. A protégé of William S. Gay and L. Mahlon Harrell, Bruce taught the complete spectrum of undergraduate courses. Toward the end of his career Bruce was involved in business extension and taught or organized short courses throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Bruce and his wife "Kit" were active in many campus and community organizations. He was always interested in woodwork and other crafts. After retiring he took the opportunity to further develop his skills in several areas of craftsmanship. Bruce has also had the opportunity to do extensive world traveling during this time. In 1996 former students and faculty were involved in establishing the R. Bruce Prouty Endowed Scholarship.
