Biography

Dr. Mitchell Oler joined the Pamplin College of Business in the summer of 2007. Dr. Oler holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, a Masters Degree in Professional Accounting from Brigham Young University, and a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Alberta.

Dr. Oler's research interests include taxes' affects on firm valuation, intangible asset valuation, and financial capital markets. His dissertation, chaired by Dr. Terry Shevlin, is "The Continuing Existence of Firms with a Market - to - Book Ratio Less than 1."

Before coming to Virginia Tech, Dr. Oler taught at the University of Utah. His public accounting experience includes working for KPMG (Bearing Point) as a staff auditor and later as a senior consultant in the Valuation Service Group, all in the San Francisco Bay Area. His is also a licensed CPA from the state of California.
