Biography
Sam is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at the Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech. He joined the faculty in 1979 and has focused on teaching and service since. In 1985-1988, Sam was the first Director of Computing for the Pamplin College of Business.
Sam received the BS in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his MBA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His primary specialty is Family Tax Planning within the general area of federal taxes, and in recent years, has focused on Management of Information Systems Information Systems Auditing within the area of information systems. Sam’s articles have been published in the Accounting Review, Journal of Accountancy, and other accounting and tax journals. He is the author of several professional development courses on using the personal computer in accounting, a text book, “Use of Microcomputers in Accounting” (West, 1985), was Co-editor of a quarterly column in The Tax Advisor on use of PCs in tax, and has served as software editor for the West Federal Taxation series of text books.
Sam is a native of Madisonville, Tennessee; though, some relative from the distance past [1800’s] lived in Augusta County, Virginia.
